3 hours west of Marrakech is the “blue city” Essaouira. The fishermen village on the Atlantic is a sharp contrast to the loud Marrakech. Everything is a little more relaxed here at the ocean. The medina is less messy, the sellers less intrusive, the air less stuffy. The hippies who have settled here in the 70s, are not visible anymore – but the atmosphere is still there.
You should not miss the harbor, where fishermen hawk their daily catch. But beware: since the catch here is completely processed, this is not a place for sensitive noses.
