Split / Stobrec – at second glance

I remember my feeling when I arrived from the market in the undercroft of Diocletian’s palace to the central square almost empty. It was few minutes before the sunset, the stones of the peristyle were shining with a diffuse light. It was during mass time in the cathedrale st dominus and the liturgical songs of the choir overwhelmed the space fitting perfectly with the unreal atmosphere of this old palace. I loved split not because it was the most beautiful city, or the most entertaining one. I loved this city because I experienced something special, for a moment I suddenly realized how small we are and how marginal our life duration is in front of human history.

Quentin – Memories of Split

On my second day in Split I developed a much better feeling for the city. Unfortunately, I could not experience a magical moment like Quentin, but today Split has shown its best side. I hope the pictures can pass that on to you a bit.

My day began with exploring the Diocletian Palace: A visit of the St. Dominus Cathedral, the crypt and the Jupiter Temple.

Afterwards I walked to the market, bought my lunch and then walked on top of the Marjan Hill to enjoy the great view and have a peaceful lunch in the forest.

The afternoon I spent on the international port and on the Riva –  the ferry traffic is impressive.

Ah and finally I bought a small boat. 😛

Here some additional impressions

While writing this post, I already arrived at the next location. I am in Podaca on the Makarska Riviera. Today I have planned my next stops and tomorrow it will be the first time crossing a border – My next stop is in Mostar – Bosnia Herzegovina, then I continue to Sarajevo.

Todays Stopp – a crazy view: from the beach directly to the Biokovo mountains

  1. Hallo Anita!

    Jutta
